You are invited to the Eighteenth Annual Heritage Luncheon, to be held on Friday, May 17 2013, at St. Mark United Methodist Church on McFarland Blvd. in Northport.
Please join us in celebrating the past, the present, and the future of Northport. Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by the program.
Our guest speaker this year will be Hayse Boyd M.D. Dr. Boyd is a longtime physician in Northport and a 1958 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School. He retired from the medical profession in 2000 and began a new career as an author.
As many of you know, Dr. Boyd is a wonderful speaker. He will be discussing his latest literary work entitled Cotton Warehouses, Saloons and Killings – the history of Northport through 1860. Included will be a photo presentation that you will not want to miss.
The program will include the presentation of the Marvin L. Harper Founders Award for Distinguished Service and inductions into the Heritage Hall of Citizens, which recognizes long-time Northport citizens who have reached the age of 90. The Van de Graaff Arboretum and Bridge Park Award will also be presented.
You will want to hear about the upcoming Museum on Main Street project, is a partnership of the Smithsonian Institution, state humanities councils, and museums across America. The Northport Heritage Museum will host the project for our area April and May 2014.
A report from the Nominations Committee and the election of officers and directors will complete the program.
This will be a wonderful time for fellowship, seeing old friends, meeting new friends, and being involved in the heritage of Northport. Please join us.
